Predicting Service Life of Steel-Reinforced Concrete Exposed to Chlorides

In today’s designs for reinforced concrete, there is increasing emphasis on service life. Transportation infrastructure is planned with a long life cycle in mind. Service life models can help designers support decisions about structural design and mixture proportions and materials. Modeling and simulation software has become more user-friendly in recent years, providing access to these software packages to a wider userbase. This article examines models that predict how service life is affected by exposure to chlorine ions and reinforcement corrosion in steel-reinforced concrete.
