Where Is the IDS?

Abstract Sometimes you just get lucky. Sometimes, you're in the right place at the right time. That was the case recently when I attended the second annual workshop on Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection (RAID99). RAID99 was held this year at Purdue University and hosted by Gene Spafford and CERIAS (formerly COAST). Nothing can beat three days of hearing about where a technology will be in one to three years. What made this conference particularly interesting was the fact that many of the attendees were too young to rent an automobile. The intrusion detection concepts this new generation of computer scientists are working on are truly awesome. It was, however, comforting to note that there were a few participants with more gray hair than I.
