A Data Collector for Seafloor Magnetotellurics

Special equipment of underwater exploration must be used to carry out data collection for seafloor magnetotellurics (MT). Although both the instrument and the measurement of MT in land application have been mature, there are still some unsolved technical problems in its application to ocean. They are concerning with signal pick up of the underwater electric field, monitoring the seafloor setting, error correction of instrument during its non-real time run, and seal pressure-bearing of measurement parts. To solve these problems, we have developed a new data collector for seafloor MT. We have used advanced technology of material, high precision electrocircuits, a reliable program of software development, and a firm structure for part assembly. We have also made exploration experiment using the new instrument on the Chinese sea area.
