Investigating the shadow radiation of 3-dimensional radar targets in the near field

This contribution is devoted to characterize the shadow radiation generated by canonical three-dimensional metallic targets in the transition between far- and near-field configurations. The considered study cases take into account the essential geometrical structure of a forward scatter radar system. Results of the numerical investigations obtained through the physical-optics solution are compared with a full-wave approach based on the methods-of-moments. This allows us to validate the capabilities of the asymptotic electromagnetic method in characterizing the forward scattering phenomenon under challenging conditions.
