THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERSPECTIVE TAKING SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURAL PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN AGED

: The present study aimed to examine the relationship between perspective taking skills and behavioural problems of 5-6 year-old children. The study group consisted of 276 5-6 year old children attending preschool institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Education in Burdur province during the academic year 2020-2021. Data collection instruments included “Perspective Taking Test for Children (PTC)”, “Scale for Screening Behavioural Problems in Preschool Children (ODSTÖ) and the personal information from developed by the researchers. or data analysis, t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used to evaluate children's perspective taking skills according to several variables (gender, age, birth order, number of siblings). In addition, Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between the children’s perspective taking skills and behavioural problems. The results obtained from the study show that the children’s perspective taking skills vary significantly by gender, age, number of siblings and birth order. Another finding is that the relationship between the children’s perspective taking levels and behavioural problems is low, negative and statistically significant. Based on this finding obtained from the study, children who have perspective taking skills exhibit less problem behaviour. Determining the relationship between children’s behavioural problems and perspective taking skills is considered important for designing intervention programs to support their social and emotional development and the study is believed to contribute to other studies to be conducted in the field.
