A Fast Handoff Mechanism for Mobile Internet

In mobile networks, devices have frequent change of point of connection to the Internet. Thus, there is a need to provide seamless connectivity to the Internet. This paper examines a fast handoff mechanism, called triple truncated packets (TTP), for mobile Internet. In this scheme, the base station BS (or access point) assists in detecting and responding to handoffs in a graceful and efficient manner. A simple analytical model motivates and supports the need for such mechanism. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can manage handoffs quickly and while lowering packet losses
