e-government: state and perspectives

The state of e-Government in Europe is presented which is based on the results of the European e-Government Awards 2007 competition. It starts with an overall view on progress and the development of public services. Waves of progress can be discerned as well as diversities in pace and sophistication. Then the contribution focuses on selected challenges: joining up administrations by having interoperability and identity management; higher usage achieved by better service and knowledge enhancement; improvements in citizen participation.
