Space Syntax Analysis in Minoan Neopalatial Architecture

This research forms the core of my doctoral dissertation1 and applies an innovative methodological approach to the study of neopalatial Minoan architecture (early Late Bronze Age– 16001450 BC) on Crete. The existence of a peculiar Minoan architectural vocabulary was firstly highlighted by D. Preziosi in his early eighties book Minoan Architectural Design2. Since then and despite the fact that a convincing formal syntax was laid out, no real attempt to examine the underlying structure of neopalatial architecture was made. This poster summarizes the part of my Ph.D. that aimed to analyze the layout of neopalatial buildings and to characterize their structural syntax.
