A study of rate-based credit flow control mechanism between IP network and ATM network

This paper investigate an rate-based credit adaptation (RBCA) algorithm for congestion control in the interworking system between the IP network and ATM network. When the IP network and ATM network are interworked together, it is difficult to control traffic flows between end-to-end terminals since there are crucial mismatches between rate-based control and window-based control. We resolve this problem by the receiver's window modification at the edge router. The proposed interworking model using RBCA is analyzed by simulations with various traffic scenarios. The performance of the proposed algorithm are shown by fairness, optimized link utilization, least occurrence of overflow/underflow for buffer occupancy, and robustness.
