Feasibility of parallel air-powered and diesel hybrid engine

A theoretical model of parallel air-powered and diesel hybrid engine's working process was established to predict the performance and judge the feasibility of the hybrid engine.Simulation results showed that the hybrid engine reclaimed the exhaust heat of diesel cylinder to improve the air-powered cylinder's performance.Power and economic characteristics of air-powered cylinder in hybrid engine were obviously enhanced without worsening the capability of diesel cylinder compared with working solely.Energy efficiency of the whole system was increased and fossil fuel consumption was reduced.The air-powered cylinder in hybrid engine performed well at low-speed and heavy-load like working solely,but the phenomenon that power and economic characteristics exasperates rapidly with the increasing of engine speed can be avoided.The experimental study on principle also proved the feasibility of the hybrid engine.
