Simulation study of scaffold 3D cell culture imaging using a miniature planar EIT sensor

3D Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) is an emerging technique for online 3D cell culture imaging. This paper presents a simulation study of scaffold 3D cell culture imaging using a miniature planar EIT sensor. A 16-electrode miniature-planar EIT sensor equipped with a regular shape scaffold was presented, modelled and characterized. The 3D image reconstruction methods based on Tikhonov regularization and Basis Pursuit Denoise (BPDN) model were investigated. Image reconstructions using different reference data were also presented and discussed. Simulation study on two phantoms verifies that the presented miniature planar EIT sensor and 3D reconstruction algorithms are able to accomplish high quality 3D cell culture imaging equipped with a scaffold.
