Computer control of the environment in greenhouses

Abstract A distributed network of computers monitors and controls the environment in the IER research greenhouses. Three microcomputers control air temperature and nutrient supply in nine zones. A central minicomputer supplies setpoints to the micros and collects, analyses and logs their data. The network has been used for routine control and for various scientific experiments. It is easy to change the computer software, as all programs are written either in the Pascal or Fortran high-level languages.
