Objective To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid level and the coronary artery disease(CAD) and degree of coronary artery stenosis. Methods There were two groups of subjects were studied according to coronary arteriography and the clinical presentation,CAD group(n=306) and control group(n=321).The clinical materials were collected and the serum uric acid level was tested. The association between the serum uric acid level and severity of coronary atherosclerosis was analyzed combined with the imaging of coronary arteriography. Results The serum uric acid level of the CAD group was(359.36±70.98)μmol/L,obviously higher than(311.41±73.65)μmol/L of the control group(P0.01).And serum uric acid level was significantly associated with the severity of CAD(F=6.618,P=0.001).After adjusting for confounding factors using multivariate regression analysis, serum uric acid also was an independent risk factor for CAD(OR=1.249,95% CI:1.241-1.756;P=0.001).Conclusion The serum uric acid level was high in patients with CAD;it's an independent risk factor for CAD and may be useful as a predictor of the severity of coronary atherosclerosis.
