Mass Calibration in Linear Ion Trap Mass Spectrometers with a Sinusoidal Frequency Scanning Mode

Ion trap mass spectrometers have advantages over other mass spectrometers in miniaturization because of their low vacuum requirement and low power consumption. These characteristics help the ion trap mass spectrometer to be competitive in aviation, space exploration, and other on-site applications. However, calibration of the ion trap mass spectrometer is a complex problem. Mass shift is the main reason of poor calibration effect and cannot be avoided completely. Sinusoidal frequency scanning mode is a new method to drive an ion trap with advantages of volume and power consumption. Although the sinusoidal frequency scanning method is simple to implement, the calibration process is complex. For the sinusoidal frequency scanning calibration in this paper, we propose two methods theoretically: linear calibration and quadratic calibration. Experiment result shows that quadratic calibration is better than linear calibration.
