Standoff distance detection of explosive materials with THz waves

We report THz sensing of explosive materials placed up to 30 m away from the emitter. The absorption peak of RDX at 0.82 THz is measured using THz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). Experimental results support the possibility of applying THz wave technology for remote sensing and detection of explosives and related compounds at long standoff distances.
