The Web of Things: Extending the Web into the Real World

Thanks to Moore's law the incremental cost of adding networking to devices is falling rapidly. This creates opportunities for many new kinds of applications. This paper looks at the potential of Web technologies for reducing the complexity for developing such applications, allowing millions of developers to extend the Web out of the browser and into the real world. This is achieved through mechanisms to provide web run times with access to rich models of users, devices, services, and the environment in which they reside. Privacy and trust are key considerations.
