GeoSoc: A Geocast-based Communication Protocol for Monitoring of Marine Environments

In the last decades, monitoring on marine environment has become in a priority because of the uncontrollable human activities which gradually are destroying the marine environment. Therefore, the usage of information technologies has been considered as a feasible alternative for monitoring marine environments. This paper proposes GeoSoc a cross-layer communication protocol using information from MAC sublayer and Application sublayer (geo-localization and strength of signal) to create groups of collaboration for monitoring of marine currents. Results obtained from simulations showed that GeoSoc is a suitable protocol for data transmissions in WSN applied on marine environment.
