The article provides a general overview of Brazilian agribusiness and the new challenges for improving its external competitivity as well as for supplying the internal food market adequately in terms of quantity and quality. The crucial importance of the education of professionals in agrifoods management as a condition to the development of Brazilian agribusiness is highlighted. The article identifies how Brazilian Universities are concretely working towards this goal. Finally, the course of Agri-food Industrial Engineering at the Federal University of Sao Carlos is examined regarding its adaptation to international trends in agribusiness education.
