On fitting low-order Markov chains to behaviour sequences

Abstract This paper is concerned with the simplification of the description of behaviour sequences by means of grouping types of behaviour together. A tentative procedure for grouping is described. It includes a discussion of the suitability of Markov-chain analysis for behaviour data.
