Performance Analysis of a Batch Service System

Abstract In this paper we present an extension of the classical Bailey's Bulk Queue. One variant of Bailey's Bulk Queue is known as a queue with a general bulk service rule denoted by M/G[a1, b]/1. In order to meet the ramifications in telecommunication systems we add the an additional restriction to the above variant of Bailey's Bulk Queue. We denote our model by ∞/G[a1, a2,b]/1 — s1, s2. We use the embedded Markov chain technique for analysis. For numerical evaluation we apply a parametric representation of the service time based on its mean and its coefficient of variation. Numerical results are presented for a configuration as it might appear in a telecommunication environment.
