An advanced micro-computer coupled control system in a baker's yeast fed-batch culture using a tubing method

A so called advanced control system which has a high degree of control and flexibility with increasing cell concentration was developed. First the PID control system previously reported was analysed. It was shown that the integral part of the controller plays an important role in skillful regulation when cell concentration increases. Using this result, an advanced control system which utilizes a simple mathematical model and a PID feed-back controller, including automatic parameter tuning, was developed. Only rough estimation of cell concentration is required because the PID controller removes the uncertainty of this information.
