THE DEVELOPMENT OF STATISTICAL SEISMOLOGY: A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Abstract An account is given of the author's experiences in the development of statistical seismology as a tool for the description, understanding, and forecasting of earthquakes. The discussion is focussed on the formulation and use of stochastic models for earthquake occurrence.
