On-line parameter commissioning in sensorless PMSM drives

Sensorless drives based on extended Kalman filter (EKF) techniques are deeply studied and developed. It is acknowledged that one major weak point is their parameter sensitivity. This paper investigates the application of a recursive parameter identification (RPI) method to the online estimate of the electrical parameters of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM). The availability of well-approximated values increases the robustness of the EKF, and leads thus to superior performances of the drive.
