Development and testing of a micro-wind generating system

Nowadays the use of renewable energy is one of the most popular topics in engineering where energy self-consumption interest is growing. This paper deals with the design of a small wind turbine generation system (2.5 kW) for single phase grid connection. The system must be efficient and totally autonomous. In this paper is included a hardware description of the system, an overview of the control strategy used and the experimental results showing the system functionality. This paper also includes a description of a wind turbine simulator developed in order to test the system under different wind conditions independently of the climatic conditions for testing the system. This simulator is done in base to the power coefficient Cp estimation.
