Isolation Between GSM/DCS and WLAN Antennas in a PDA Phone

The isolation performances of GSM/DCS and WLAN antennas embedded in a PDA phone for cellular/WLAN dual-network operations are studied. The two (GSM/DCS and WLAN) antennas are printed PIFAs with compact sizes and are mounted perpendicularly along the boundary of the system circuit board in order to perform as internal antennas for the PDA phone. It is found that the isolation between the two antennas is greatly dependent on their relative position inside the PDA phone. The measured and simulated results are presented, and the isolation performances are analyzed. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
