PRINCIPLE AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A HARMONIC DEPRESSION APPROACH FOR SINGLE-PHASE CONTROLLED SATURABLE REACTOR

Single phase controlled reactors have been used in many applications, such as dynamic var compensation in electrical railway power supply systems , adjustable arc extinguishing reactors ,et al. Generally it is difficult to damp the harmonics generated in the above mentioned controlled saturable reactors in single phase applications. A method for depressing the harmonics generated from a single phase controlled saturable reactor group is proposed. The technique employs two similar single phase controlled saturable reactors in shunt but with different electromagnetic parameters. With coordination control over the shunted reactors, the harmonics generated from each unit are compensated each other. As a result, the total harmonic level seen in the group is greatly decreased. Theoretical analysis and experimental results confirmed the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed state of the art technique. The project is supported by Foundation for University Key Teacher by the Ministry of Education.
