The structural characterization of the novel ribbon sheet, [Cu2Cl2(pyz)]n (pyz = pyrazine)

Abstract The new copper(I) sheet compound [Cu2Cl2(pyz)]n (pyz = pyrazine) (1) has been synthesized and characterized. 1 crystallizes in the triclinic, space group P 1 with a = 6.885(2) A , b = 7.5719(6) A , c = 3.752(1) A , α = 98.84(1)°, β = 92.27(2)°, γ = 106.55(2)°, U = 184.55(7) A 3 , and Z = 1 . Crystal structure consists of one-dimensional CuCln ladders and stacked pyz columns. Infinite, zigzag ribbons are formed by Cu(I) ions and chlorides. The ladders extend along the c-direction, and are linked by pyz molecules which coordinate to adjacent copper atoms, forming a two-dimensional sheet. The pyz molecules are stacked in the sheet and make a column along the c-axis.
