On message delivery through approximate information in highly dynamic Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

This paper proposed and analyzed a new strategy to solve the problem of message delivery in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) focusing, in particular, on settings characterized by a high mobility degree. Unlike the classical approaches, in our proposal the message forwarding process is not based on a previously computed path. Rather, the nodes of the network exploit a set of approximate information to discover a path to the destination on the fly. The main advantage of using such a scheme is providing the whole forwarding process with an intrinsic resilience to topological changes as well as eliminating the need of any network-wide search, as required by the most promising routing protocols. For these reasons, it is particularly suitable for delay sensitive applications. The paper reports a simulation study giving evidence of the effectiveness of the idea.
