Ship Flow Calculation Using the PHOENICS Computer Code

This paper describes an application of the PHOENICS computer program, including the body fitted coordinate system (see also preceding Abstract). The objective was to investigate the general accuracy and the grid dependence of the method when applied to the flow around the stern of a ship model. Systematic variations of the grid in all three directions were tested, and the results are compared with experimental measurements. Since it appears that the method cannot be used with accuracy in regions where the boundary layer is thin, a method based on a combination of PHOENICS and a boundary layer method has been developed.
