A procedural model of an abstractor at work

In an attempt to explain better how documents are represented for bibliographic databases, a first individual model of an abstractor at work is presented. It is seen as the beginning of a procedural model of content analysis, based on the perforamnce of competent colleagues. The individual model results from the model-driven interpretation of 11 abstracting processes, the initial model being a specialisation of a model of expository writing with an integrated strategic model of text understanding and summarizing. The resulting abstractor's performance model is pragmatic in its respect for the comprehensive goals of the embedding information transfer environments; it is strategy-oriented, goal-driven and constructive. Abstract production appears as incremental construction of an abstract from meaning components of the original document
