Strength and Fatigue of Fluoride Glass Optical Fibers

Strength and fatigue characteristics of fluoride glass optical fibers, used as a new infrared transmission medium, were examined. A correlation parameter between mirror size and tensile strength of 0.826 MPa.m12 was obtained, and a fatigue parameter of 16.2 was determined from a dynamic fatigue test at 20°C and 60% rh.
