Body component of steel

A supporting frame structure of a vehicle body is composed of a plurality of body components. In order to create a lightweight, easily mountable and accident insured vehicle body is proposed to form at least one of the body panels as thin-walled steel casting. This wall thicknesses down to 1.0 mm obtained on components up to 1.5 m length. In a door pillar can be so compared to a conventional plate-door pillar without sacrificing strength, a weight saving of 25% can be achieved. At the same time the number of assembly parts of the door pillar and the support frame structure is considerably reduced.
