The Rydberg—Klein—Rees method for obtaining potential‐energy curves from band‐spectroscopic data has been modified in order to handle doublet electronic states intermediate between Hund's cases (a) and (b). In the derivation, the spin‐orbit coupling constant has been taken to be independent of distance. The modified equations have been used to recalculate the curves for the X2II state of NO.
