Studies on Active Splitting Control of Power Systems

Power system splitting (also called as system islanding) is to split the interconnected power grid into several islands when the system is subject to severe disturbances and system integrity can not be hold, so that the continuity of power service on the islands can be sustained. Characterized by on-line calculation, global control and coordinated action, active splitting has attracted more and more attention. In this paper, the key problems that stay on the way to a feasible active splitting control are listed and analyzed. A "searching and verifying" based approach is introduced to tackle the "where to split" problem. Constraints that a feasible splitting control strategy must satisfy are established. Several directions in which some progresses may be obtained are pointed out.
