Study on development of autonomous vehicle using embedded control board

This paper describes the state of the art design of a mechanical system that makes conventional car drivable autonomously. This conceptually designed car is for autonomous car driving contest. Recently, autonomous car driving system is rapidly receiving strong focus. CES 2016 showed that articles of newspapers on the fusion of car technology, computer science and consumer electronics to make new concept of consumer machine was enough to make public feel that car without driver might be realized in near future. Firstly, overall view of the entire system was described based on the car driving system architecture followed by description of each module: recognition unit, decision making unit and actuation unit. In the recognition unit, lane detection, obstacle or pedestrian avoidance and traffic sign recognition methods are explained. Decision making unit mainly carries out global and local path planning. In the actuation unit, steering wheel, brake system and accelerator system are shortly described. This paper shows what are important in the design of the autonomous car driving system.
