Method of predicting transient-current patterns in transformers

The paper describes a method for analysing the transient behaviour of a transformer, taking into account the mutua-coupling between phases and the nonlinearity of the magnetic material. A 3-phase, 3-limb transformer is taken as the basis for illustrating the theoretical analysis, but the method can be applied to any electromagnetic configuration. A selection of calculated and experimental results are presented, illustrating the accuracy achieved in both magnitude and waveform.
