Small CPW-Fed Band-Notched Ultrawideband Rectangular Aperture Antenna

A structurally simple and compact ultrawideband (UWB) printed rectangular aperture antenna (PRAA) fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is proposed. The main feature of the proposed PRAA is the compound tuning stub (CTS), formed by connecting three rectangular conducting patches to the conventional tuning stub. Through adjusting the dimensions of the three rectangular patches, impedance matching in different ranges of the UWB can be greatly improved. The resulting VSWR les 2 impedance bandwidth is as large as 13.5 GHz. In addition, embedding in the aperture an additional grounded rectangular patch can lead to a desired notched band within the UWB.
