Chapter 14 – SecurePlatform

Publisher Summary SecurePlatform is a very simple, efficient, fast, and inexpensive platform to run Check Point's products. This product enables an administrator to quickly set up a fully supported platform by one vendor. Check Point SecurePlatform removes the focus and the difficult decisions (as well as a great deal of the cost) from the hardware and puts the focus on the important piece, the software. It is possible to configure a system in two ways: via the Web user interface (WUI) or the command line. The WUI enables configuring many things, but the most complete way to configure a system is via the command line. A difference between SecurePlatform and a normal Linux distribution is that when someone logs on the command-line interface, one receives an application-specific configuration and management interface. The CPShell environment enables an administrator to access the commands essential to firewall administration, but it further limits access to the underlying operating system (OS) with another separate password. The advanced debugging and troubleshooting mode is referred to as “Expert mode.” This chapter also reviews the new SecurePlatform Pro product that adds support for dynamic-routing protocols. Although this version of SecurePlatform means an additional license, it does add functionality that was previously unavailable in SecurePlatform.
