Solid state lasers with Raman frequency conversion

Abstract Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in solid state crystals has become a well-established nonlinear frequency conversion technique with the increasing number of applications. Summary of an experimental investigation of SRS in unique solid state Raman-active materials (BaWO 4 , KGW, CaCO 3 ) is presented. Examples of picosecond and nanosecond Raman laser development are described in various pump configurations. Comparison of Raman crystal converters is done and best candidate for the solid state Raman laser is shown.
