Markov Modelling Based Reliability Evaluation of UPFC Incorporated IEEE 9 Bus System

Reliable operation of transmission system is essential to obtain reliable operation of composite power system. FACTS devices are playing very significant role in improving the effectiveness of transmission system performance. IEEE 9 bus system case study is considered to investigate the reliability with and without incorporation of UPFC. IEEE 9 Bus system reliability is evaluated by developing Markov model. Selection method of specific outages, which lead to inadequacy and security problems in the system - is presented in this paper. Initial reliability indices like probability of failure and frequency of failure are obtained by Markov model. Based on these two basic indices load point and system indices are evaluated. Improvement in the reliability of IEEE9 bus system with the incorporation of UPFC is examined in the present work. The method which calculates more accurate reliability indices with lesser number of computations, within less time is proposed in the present paper.
