Signal Modeling for Tissue Characterization

Tissue characterization refers to a quantitative analysis of biosignals for the purpose of enhancing the accessibility or specificity of information carried by the signals. Although the term is widely applied, we view tissue characterization specifically as a signal processing problem of extracting and presenting diagnostic information obtained from medical image data to improve classification performance, e.g., radiological diagnosis, or to more accurately describe biophysical mechanisms. It is difficult to surpass the classification performance of the human visual system except when there is limited access to essential information.
