PRESENT STATUS OF EYE EXERCISE FOR IMPROVEMENT OF VISUAL FUNCTION

Summary There is abundant evidence for the general proposition that exercises, repetition, practice and learning lead to better performance, to the acquisition of skill. Many ocular conditions exemplify this law. Since seeing is only partly a matter of The usual plastic artificial eye has the sclerotic and the iris painted on an acrylic base and in the course of time this paint discolours, cracks, and at times causes conjunctivitis. Mr. L. Merrett has succeeded in perfecting an artificial eye in methyl methacrylate that will be coloured to match the natural sclerotic in any shade required. This, combined with a glass iris of the correct colour, has a more life-like quality than the usual “flat” appearance of the ordinary acrylic eye. Plastic artificial eyes are not a cheap substitute for the glass artificial eye. As they require so much more processing the price is correspondingly higher but as they are almost indestructible and impervious to lachrymal secretion, plastic has many advantages in comparison to glass.
