Application of cellular radio to telecommunication expansion in developing countries

The application of cellular radio technology to telecommunication expansion in urban and rural areas of developing countries is studied. Basic principles of cellular radio and its application to mobile and fixed services are described. The current status of telecommunications in some developing countries is briefly reviewed, and the feasibility of applying cellular radio technology as an alternative to fixed wireline services is explored. A major results shows that with the abundance of available radio frequency spectrum in developing countries, cellular radio is capable of injecting millions of telephone lines into a large metropolitan area. Furthermore, installation time and cost per line of such services are considerably lower than those of the conventional wireline services.<<ETX>>
