T-type three-level neutral point clamped inverter with model predictive control for grid connected photovoltaic applications

This paper presents Model predictive control technique for the high efficiency with reduced switches stresses T-type three-level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter for Photovoltaic (PV) applications. T-type three-level NPC inverter is a combination of the NPC and T-Type inverters. As it is a combination of T-type and NPC it has the same features of NPC such as breakdown voltage of the switching devices are half of the DC link voltage, so it has less switching losses. And at the same time it has the same feature of the T-type which is less conduction losses. Model Predictive Control (MPC) regulates the T-type 3L-NPC inverter to do the following functions: extract maximum power from PV, ensure voltage balance of the splatted capacitor and inject a sinusoidal current in phase with the grid voltage.
