Performance evaluation of shape matching via chord length distribution

The discrimination of planar closed shapes via their chord length distribution is discussed and tested on two data sets with different kinds of distortion. The performance of the chord method is compared with the Fourier descriptor and moment invariant methods. Techniques for improving the efficiency of the chord method are investigated. The problem of selecting a number of shape features is introduced. Experimental results show that either the K−S statistic or features selected from the chord distribution are good candidates for shape matching.
