Quantification of complexity in cyber-physical systems based on key figures

Abstract Manufacturing companies are facing increasing demands regarding functionality and individualization of products. In order to meet these requirements, customer solutions are increasingly realized by using cyber-physical systems (CPS). CPS are characterized by the interaction of numerous virtual and physical elements in a connected system. On the one hand, new technical possibilities arise, on the other hand, the connection of a large number of different systems results in an increase in complexity. In order to control complexity, the goal of this paper is to develop a system of key figures enabling the measurement of the system complexity of CPS. In particular, key figures are deducted from the literature, relationships between the key figures are identified and the key figures are condensed and consolidated in a key figure system.
