Analysis and design of fuzzy controller based on fuzzy reaching law

Abstract In this paper, a new approach to the design of fuzzy controllers for complex systems such as higher-order systems, is presented. Distinguishing from the existed Fuzzy Sliding Mode Control (FSMC), the proposed method uses a novel concept called fuzzy reaching law, which comes from the idea of the reaching law in Variables Structures Control (VSC), to represent the quantity parameters in the slidins mode control. In this way, a systematic desisn methodology of fuzzy control for complex nonlinear systems can be implemented by using the design procedure of VSC. Unlike other FSMC methods, which eliminate the high-frequency chattering at the price of losing invariance, the control scheme presented in this paper preserves not only the merits of the existed FSMC, but also the important characteristics of the sliding mode in VSC.
