Short Communication: “Scavenger” programming for the CRAY X-MP computer

It is demonstrated that in a multi-user environment the presence of a single processor-bound small memory four-way multiprocessed job (in dynamic balance) running at low scheduling priority is capable of consuming almost all potentially idle cycles on all the processors of a CRAY X-MP/4 system, with little disturbance to the flow of other work, and a greatly improved overall throughput.
