Character recognition and its Announcing using artificial Neural Networks

This paper presents an Artificial Neural Network based implementation of a new methodology for recognition of the characters and their announcement. The characters identified are announced using pre-recorded voice data. In doing so, the Continuous Variable Slope Delta Modulation (CVSD) has been used. A quick back propagation algorithm has been employed for training the network utilising a sigmoidal nonlinearity. This system will be of great use as a reading aid for the busy and the blind.
