Toy talk strategies: An instructional resource

To facilitate language development, clinicians often encourage parents and teachers to follow the child’s attentional lead and to model vocabulary and basic sentence structure using comments or descriptive talk. Language modeling strategies are intended to help children connect words in the language input to corresponding objects, actions, and events in the world. Common strategies include responsive labeling, self-talk, and parallel talk.
